Betty Bomber Wreck

Our Wednesday afternoon adventure was to dive on one of the planes which didn't make the landing field at Eten.

A Betty Bomber ( Mitsubishi G4M) crashed into the lagoon about 1/2 mile short of the runway. She lies in the sand at about 60 feet.

Both engines were sheared off and are in front and to the port side of the fuselage. Seats, radios and other parts have been collected near the port elevator.

Bruce inspects one of the severed engines in this photo by Linda.

Looking in the dorsal hatch, Bruce checks out the interior. A swim inside the fuselage gets the diver up to the cockpit. The starboard wing is in the background of this photo by Linda.

etween the fuselage and the engines, the swim over some intervening reef yielded a crown of thorns starfish.
