Goodbye to Chuuk

Friday afternoon we dove the Sankisan Maru. She was a cargo ship of 4,776 tons. She lies on the bottom (90 feet) near Uman Island, where she sank just shortly after her second birthday. She is very close to South Pass - the southern most entrance to Truk lagoon. Her demise was caused by a hit to the rear cargo holds, where either fuel or ordinance was being carried. The stern is separated from the main ship and what remains of the bridge and rear holds is only bent metal. The nearness to South Pass provided about 100 foot visibility on this dive.

Originally we had a full week trip on the Truk Aggressor II and then flew on Sunday to Palau and had a full week trip on the Palau Aggressor II. Continental Micronesia changed its schedule about a week before we left. They dropped the early Sunday flight from Chuuk to Guam (which connected to the Palau flight). So we had to cut the Truk trip short short by one day (out of 5-1/2 dive days) and leave on Saturday for Palau. Here are those lucky divers who got to dive the additional day sending us off in the skiff on our way to the airport.
