Wrecks in Truk Lagoon

During our week in April, 1998, we visited many of the popular wrecks in the lagoon. In 2002, we visited almost the same group. Eten island was no longer available as a surface interval trip.

Where wreck names are underscored, there is a link to a sketch of the wreck.

All of the shipwrecks were Marus, except for the Fumizuki which was a destroyer.

A note on ship names. Maru was used for commercial ships (freighters and passenger vessels). Maru refers to a round trip, as the commercial vessels were expected to make. The Marus, thus, have such non Japanese names as San Francisco Maru, as well as more traditional names as Sankisan Maru. Military vessels did not have theMaru designation.
